Torsåker Witch Trials
On a single night in 1675 71 people in Torsåker, Sweden were executed for witchcraft in the largest witch trial in Swedish history. The trial began on October 15, 1674 and resulted in the execution by beheading and burning of 71 individuals, 65 women and 6 men.
In 1674 two boys identified around 100 people accused of witchcraft. The boys claimed that the accused witches had abducted children to deliver to Satan. Further children were forced to testify against the accused, often compelled by torture to do so.
