| A blog about the history, geography, and mythology of the Nordic countries. Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Iceland, and Finland, and their associated territories. | I am a Library Science masters student focusing in social and library media. This has been combined with a background in archaeology and a fascination with world history and mythology to create this blog. |
The Gävle Goat is an enormous version of a traditional straw Yule Goat constructed annually in Gävle, Sweden.
The goat was first constructed in 1966 as the brain child of advertising consultant Stig Gavlen and built by the Gävle fire department. The first goat was 13 meters tall and 7 meters long. The goat is reconstructed every year and has been burned down 25 times despite efforts to prevent such.
The Gävle Goat battles one constructed by the Natural Science Club of the School of Vasa for the world record of largest Yule Goat. A record currently held by the Natural Science Club.
