Of Greenland’s population of over 57,000 approximately 88% identify as Kalaallit, Greenlandic Inuit, and only 12% are of European descent, usually Danish.
These people thrived in Greenland for centuries before the arrival of Norse settlers, and for further centuries after the disappearance of the original Norse settlements. Although the Inuit were the only inhabitants for centuries Greenland remains nonetheless a territory of the Kingdom of Denmark.
