There was not a printing press in Norway until 1644. The first Norwegian newspaper was Norske Intelligenz-Seddeler, founded in 1763 in Cristiania by Samuel Conrad Schwach. It did not begin covering political events until 1814, instead publishing mostly advertisement and entertainment articles. In 1920 the newspaper became a part of Verdens Gang newspaper, which three years later became defunct.
