Thorbjorn Falldin was Prime Minister of Sweden from 1976-1982. At the time of his appointment he was the first Prime Minister since the ’30s who had not been working in politics since his teens. In fact, Falldin lived and worked as a farmer until becoming involved in politics in 1958.

Falldin is generally regarded as one of the few honest politicians. When he discovered that he could not fulfill his campaign promises of 1976 he resigned his position, but ran and won again in 1979. He retired from politics in 1985 and returned to his farm, which had been maintained throughout his political career, with his family.
