Ribadstugan, or The Spanking bathhouse, is a famous case of abuse that occurred in 1754.

On Christmas, 1754 a Stockholm man abused his wife. In retaliation, the woman and her friends attacked him in his sleep, beating the man so severely that he could not get out of bed for several days following the attack. When he was well enough, the man sued his wife and her friends, who were fined 70 riksdalar for trespassing. This became one of the most widely talked about crimes of its day, and even the subject of a play in 1755.
